Community of El Yayal
- Approximately 30 km outside of Nagua
- Population aproximately 300 people (roughly 100 homes)
- Main source of income is agriculture and animal husbandry

Ventilated Improved Pit Latrines

Organized by the Women's group of El Yayal and the Peace Corps Volunteer.

33% of the homes in the community did not have latrines.
-
Of the homes that had latrines only 27% are in good/fair condition
-
16% of the houses had one or more family embers with a case of diarrhea

Community Clinic

- We organized and operated a clinic for the community.
- Physician and Nurse Practitioner saw approximately 300 adults and administered anti-parasitics to over 200 children.
- Students were able to work in triage, shadow the physician or nurse practitioner, or distribute medication in the pharmacy.
